I signed up for classes next fall and I hope I feel well enough to go cuz Im kinda excited since Ill be clean and im gonna work hard.

book review! yeah I still love that-lets see Im halfway through the shack by w.m young which is a christian fiction/non fiction book about a man who's daughter is abducted and 4 yrs later God calls him back to the shack where she was killed to talk.
I like christian fiction sometimes one of my favorites of redeeming love by fracis something. Carolyn Jessop was on with her autobiographical book Escape. it looked interesting so I went to bn and bought it. and read it this week. Speaking of I'm glad my bf will be working tomorrow night so I can study-I have a lot to do-classes this year have been much harder then last.
Anyway I'm watching Days of our Lives, one of my favorite shows. I think I like it because it's been consistent and with me through all mine and my mother's life. I remember when I was about 11-12 years old and Billie (one of my favorite characters now) burned Bo and Hope's boat "the Fancy Face" and I started crying and my mom looked at me and was like "maybe you are too young to be watching this." I remember Days' stories from way back in the 90's, besides I Love Lucy on nick at nite's summer block party, Days' is one of the earliest shows I remember. Its been a fun read so far.

On that same note the second is: Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen-I like to read a classical book every once in a while to compare writing then and now-anyway the book was pretty good a little hard to understand the older language if you aren't used to it but the chapters are short so they go fast and its quite romantic with a good plot. I read it over Christmas vacation so if you have time its a good read for a longish period of time (a couple weeks or so its not one of those pick up and read page turners that only last a couple days). good book tho, worth the read.

that's all for now ttyl!

oops!

Ha ha I forgot to put up some stuff about Roe vs. Wade 35th anniversary yesterday!
So I'll write a lil today, some background info: In 1973, the supreme court decided it was unconstitutional for a state to deny women abortions because of the 14th amendment; Due process, and peoples right to privacy. in 1970 Jane Roe (aka Norma L. MCorvey) was fighting the state of Texas represented by prosecutor Henry wade; for the right to get an abortion for her pregnancy because of a rape she fell victim to. In an appeal on January 22, 1973 The supreme court voted in favor of Roe's case, decided she had a constitutional right to privacy over her body and legalized abortion.

that's my account if the facts are off please tell me.

The woman's center at our school is holding events for R V W today tomorrow and yesterday. In my WS class we watched this amazing movie called Iron Jawed Angels about Alice Paul and the National Women's Party's fight for the vote in the 19teen's. It was so emotional and coloful with a sort of modern feel to it. Hilary Swank, Francis O'Conner, Angelica Houston, and McDreamy-Patrick Dempsy starred in it-and completely captured their characters. So I much recommend it.

What else, what else?? The sexist quote of the day provided by one of my favorite websites feministing.com:

Former state Rep. Sue Burmeister from Georgia in a debate about why women who want abortions should have sit through a state-written lecture about how terrible it is and wait 24 hours before obtaining the procedure: "Women are intelligent, but when you're emotional, you're not thinking with the right part of your brain."
Book for the day: America's Women By: Gail Collins. 400 years of womens history that is way more interesting then any history book I've read-it's not a thriller but it will keep you turning the page. Also reading the Symposium By: Plato-a short book of dialouge and speeches about love, this is also an interesting quick read.

Also I'm hoping to have some writings on the issues of the campaign when we get closer to the election.

I think that's all for now I'll write more later if I think of something...bye for now!

-A

Feminism and Me

I created this blog as a way to voice my views and opinions about politics, the media, literature, and life in general; without being on myspace(which I use for personal stuff) or Ak! facebook. I'll try to put the fun stuff in my life in here as well. About me: I'm a second year college student studying psychology, my aspirations for that would be definitely to get my doctorate and help as many people as possible. When I was 17 I was diagnosed with depression and anxiety and spent a month in a treatment facility. Around that time I decided I wanted to help people who were going through the same things I was going through hence; my psychology ambitions. I also love to write short stories, poems, novels, you name it! I would love o have a career in writing as well which is why I'm very excited to start this blog.

I am also taking my first women's studies classes which got me interested in feminism. Although women have the right to vote and mostly an equal standing in American society as men, our plight as feminists is far from over. The health care coverage in our country is abysmal, the fact that women can be denied birth-control because the pharmacist doesn't feel its within their moral beliefs to sell it to them is atrocious, the fact that males in congress are the ones deciding our reproductive rights is horrifying, and there are so, so, many more issues facing young women today. I was a little apprehensive to start learning about feminism but now that I've started I can't turn back feminism is now a part of me and I think always has been.

Well that's just a little bit about me but its almost bed time so I gotta go, I'll write more later. I'm so excited to finally get this blog started and to start sharing my views with you all! thank you so much for reading!

Also every entry I am going to include a book I recommend because I think reading really is the way to learn and open your minds to new ideas. (I'm a very avid reader!) For today because the topic was Feminism and me I'll recommend my new favorite feminist book for young people Full Frontal Feminism By: Jessica Valenti
It's a very in your face book and reads easily like a conversation with a good friend wit lots of juicy gossip supported by real facts.

Thanks again,
-A
